Xomba- Bookmarking & Article Writing Site

Xomba is a popular social bookmarking and article writing site. The unique feature of Xomba is that it is an adsense revenue sharing site and splits 50/50 revenue with the publisher. Xomba currently has a PR of 5. The only disadvantage of Xomba is that links submitted to Xomba are no follow so xomba cannot be used for building links. But the links submitted to xomba gets indexed quickly and you benefit from the traffic. Recently, this site has been getting a lot of google love.

Maximize Revenue- Earning Options At Xomba

There are 4 ways by which a user can earn from xomba.

  • Bookmark:

Previously it was known as Xomblurb. One can earnby bookmarking their articles at Xomba. User have to write a short summary of atleast 50 words about the article/site he is linking to Xomba.

Earn from bookmarking your content
Earn from bookmarking your content
  • Article:

Previously It was known as Xombyte. A user can also earn by writing articles at Xomba. Article is a post with atleast 150 words and one can write on any topic. One can also include pictures, videos and links in their article. It can be effectively used to drive traffic to your main site as the word count required at Xomba to post an article is very minimum.
  • Referrals:

You can also earn by referring new users to Xomba. You get 10% of their adsense revenue and this comes from Xomba's share of 50% and not the publisher's.
  • Contests:

Xomba also have contests throughout the year. Cash prizes are awarded to the winners. If you stay in the United States you get the cash prize by check, and for users outside U.S. you need to have a paypal account in order to receive the payment.

Final Words, Tips And Advice

Now, one might also be confused whether to bookmark the content or write on Xomba itself. I recently read a forum post by a hubber saying "why not write on Xomba, It also has a PR of 5. Though it has the same PR as of Hubpages but one must remember that links on Xomba are no follow and it won't be a viable option if you think long term.

Also, when submitting your bookmark, write a unique 50 plus word summary so that you can target different keywords and also they won't temporary suspend your account suspecting plagiarism.

And as regard to article writing, write post on topics which are currently hot and most discussed on the net. You will be benefited by the traffic and would stand a decent chance to earn money(though it would be short term).

To conclude with, Xomba is a site definitely worth joining and the clickthroughrate(CTR) is excellent(5%-10% higher than hubpages).

The links may be no follow, but I have noticed Xomba links showing up more and more in my Google and Bing webmaster tools. Don't know about Yahoo though.

You are right Sabreblade. As I have written in this hub, the links submitted to xomba are indexed rather quickly. Sometimes, they may even show up before your original hub in SERPs, though it will stay like this forever. And once it is indexed and shows up in Google and Bing, I guess it will show up in Yahoo search as well!! Thanks for stopping by!!

I've published all but one of my hubs on Xomba and seen about 20 page views over a month's time. No AdSense or AdSense impressions. I have a channel set up for the whole site. Overall I'm not impressed with them. Though part of my disappointment is I originally thought they were dofollow.

englightenedsoul profile image

englightenedsoul Hub Author 2 years ago

I have bookmarked 25 of my hubs there and have earned a decent income(for me $9 is a decent income for my bookmarks). When I joined Xomba I also thought it was do follow but unfortunately it is not. What is your username at Xomba so that I can send you a friend request and look at your bookmarks. You must consider writing atleast a 150-200 words summary as you will have some long tail keywords and the ads would be more relevant. Though I only write 50-100 words summary but yesterday was advice by a experienced hubber to write a more detailed summary. I hope that would help a little. Thanks for stopping by!!

Wave thanks for the kind words. They are really encouraging. When I started there I also did not knew anything about nofollow and dofollow links. I learnt that from other knowledgeable hubbers on this topic. I am happy that I was able to help and I hope you have the same username at Xomba, would send you a friend request there!!

Great work, enlightedsoul - I will try that one. For my writing site, I am more interested in direct referrals, so the nofollow isn't a problem. Thanks for that!

I didn't realize Xomba requirements for articles was so easy to meet. I will have to try that out soon. Thanks for the great info.

I have a theory about No Follow links. I have noticed on several occasions a backlink left on a site like Xomba at first will outrank or even replace the original source the backlink points to in the SERP's. But once Google figures out that the Xomba page's content is really only a link to your hub the ranking results will change so that it no longer replaces the original.

I think once this happens Google is giving a little more authority to your hub as it is the original content the other higher ranking page is associated with. I really do believe these No Follow links are more useful for SEO purposes than others say. I have no hard proof about this theory beyond my observations and a gut feeling of what is going on behind the curtains.

Ignore no follow links if you wish, but I sure don't!

englightenedsoul profile image

englightenedsoul Hub Author 2 years ago

Thanks for stopping by MyWebs. I have learnt a lot from your hubs(check I have retitled my comment capsule).

And you are very right about the theory of no follow links and if you are looking for proof, trying searching for the term "Maximize your earnings from Xomba" and you will see that links submitted to Snipsly and Xomba comes first. So I for sure believe your theory. And this has happened to me for every hubs that I publish.

And to be honest I don't much care of dofollow and nofollow links. My aim for now is to get traffic and a way that people can find my hubs through search engine. It does not matter if that traffic is coming from an nofollow site.

Thanks again for stopping by!!

I see that your comment sections does have your keywords, nice. Since the comments section is usually near the bottom of the page its a great place to place your keywords so they are near the end of your hub. :)

Very true, regardless if they are follow or nofollow they both get your traffic which is all many care about anyways.

Wrenfrost I am glad you find the information worth. Xomba has worked pretty good for me in terms of traffic and adsense revenue. Also, can you tell me the name of the site you found, if it is a fairly new site than that site may have the poetential..you never know. Can't judge a book by it's cover.

Thank you so much for stopping by!!

I have been with Xomba since my first hub here, 3 months back. Each time i complete a hub, i will submit bookmark at xomba. Noticed that traffic comes very quickly and dies off quickly as well. After couple of days no more traffic for my older hubs. Don't know why. I do agree Xomba has high CTR, that's why i am sticking to it.

englightenedsoul profile image

englightenedsoul Hub Author 2 years ago

Jason I have also been doing the same and my results are more or less similar to your's. Only few of my hubs still get traffic from Xomba. Though a guess, but I think bookmarking something technology related or some evergreen topic will help you get continous traffic. But adsense revenue is all that matters and Xomba has good CTR so all is well.

Thanks for stopping by!!

Xomba is great as an end product, because it ranks well very quickly. Search engines love it!

Xomba sucks because you almost have to use it as an end-point, since the links are nofollow. This makes no sense to me, as the site is clearly a property for IM'ers looking to make a buck online, so why would they do away with a great selling point like that?

So Xomba is 50/50 with me right now. I'll leave the articles and bookmarks I have with them in place and see what age does for them...

englightenedsoul profile image

englightenedsoul Hub Author 2 years ago

Personally speaking, the very reason for me to join Xomba was Google love the site gets, the traffic and some passive adsense revenue. I have got decent traffic and some adsense revenue from the site. But then I don't primarily aim for revenue as I only post my bookmarks there. Writing a short article on current hot topic will boost your revenue. Also, unless you are writing on some evergreen topic, I don't think your traffic will increase. Xomba traffic dies after a few days. But then these are my observation of my bookmarks.

Anyways, thanks for stopping by!!

Excellent Hub, I am a Xomba member also, in fact I use to write for them only before I can to Hub Pages, now I put my focus on making hubs, you get more readers here. I will consider making bookmarks for my articles. Good Advice.

Thank you so much for the kind words. I really appreciate it and you are right you get more readers here at hubpages. But you should definitely bookmark all your hubs at Xomba. You will see a spike in traffic.

Thank you so much for stopping by!!

Hi there - I notice you mention writing a summary of 150-200 words. In that case, do you still just write a bookmark or do you write an article instead?

englightenedsoul profile image

englightenedsoul Hub Author 19 months ago

Hi Marisa, it so good to see you stop by.

I mentioned 150-200 words summary for only articles. For bookmarks, 50 word keyword rich summary is enough.

And if you can write 150-200 words for a summary, by all means you should post that as an article because in articles you have the option of inserting links in anchor text which has now been disabled in bookmarks.

I believe we can have atleast two contextual link from an article, so you can either point one to affiliates and one to hub or one to hub and one to website.

I personally have never written any articles on Xomba due to the nofollow attribute. But writing on trending and popular topics will certainly help in earnings and traffic.

Edit: I just found this article by wavegirl and she has used 3 contextual links(2 pointing to her same hub and 1 to affiliate)

Link:www.xomba.com/couples_costumes_2010

I hope that helps.

Thanks for that link! I just received an email from Xomba telling me my account has been blocked - I thought maybe it was because I included 3 links in the article I wrote, but it looks like Wavegirl got away with it. I've emailed them so I'll see what happens!

Great hub! It's very informative.

Have you written any hubs which show your revenue progress over time for each site and amount of work? I guess that sounds like a little bit of work but I would totally follow a hub like that since I'm new and still feel a bit hopeless about it all! I think it would be well trafficed by others like me as well :)

Hi friends. Sorry to say this but Xomba is no longer the user friendly site it used to be. The sad but true thing is the site has indulged into seroius mistrust and stealing of authors income by hoodwinking them. Please read the articles below to know more:
