How I Made $100 in Adsense From Hubpages

Today (7th June, 2010) marks the completion of my first six months at hubpages. I can't tell you how happy I am. It has been a fruitful and rewarding six months. I've achieved most of the goals I have planned when I first started at hubpages. So I have decided to write this hub to commemorate my first six months at hubpages. In this hub, I would like to share with you my journey so far and more importantly my writing and marketing strategy which has earned me $100 (adsense income) in less than 6 months.

How I Made Money With Adsense:

It took me exactly 5 months and 13 days to reach my $100 payout threshold in adsense. I joined hubpages on 7th december 2009 and unexpectedly I had a very good first month, in terms of my adsense earnings. But when I think about it now, I think I could have earned a lot more than I did then. I mean, I had only written a hub titled, "Most Beautiful Christmas Card". This particular hub is a fiction story and as all experienced hubber will tell you, that fiction does not do well with adsense and other affiliates. But shockingly it made me $12 (May be due to the fact that it attracted high paying keywords naturally). Had I written multiple and more specific product oriented hubs on christmas I would have earned much more. Then I had a disastrous second month as christmas was over. I only earned $2 for the whole of January. I was really shocked and depressed. Infact I was depressed to the point that I even thought of quitting.

It was at this point that Rmcrayne and Princessa encouraged me to take part in hubmob and explained to me the importance of writing on popular topic and informational article. Thus, I participated in weekly hubmob and wrote a hub on 'Winter Olympic Games' and this hub did exceptionally well. Since then, I have never looked back and now I only write hubs which my reader may find useful. Also, my adsense earnings have not dropped since then, infact it has only increased. So here is the strategy that I followed that made me $100 in less than 6 months.

How To Make Money With Adsense:

• Write On Evergreen Topic:
  
  Writing on evergreen topics will generate revenue and traffic for years. These topics don't get devalued with time and they get a lot of love from search engines. Though you won't see a drastic surge in traffic and revenue in short time but they are really worth it in the long run. • Writing On Trending Topic:
  
  Though writing hubs on evergreen topic should be your primary focus but don't refrain yourself from writing trending topic as well. Trending topic are the currently hot topics and are searched heavily. Writing on such topic can give a quick boost to your traffic and earnings. I have seen huge success from trending topics and my hub on 'Rank Decoding Engine - Best Free SEO Software' is a perfect example of this. I had written this hub the day this software was released and now I ranked first for the search term 'Rank Decoding Engine'. Also this hub has earned me around $20 so those 3 hours I put into writing this hub weren't wasted. You can also use this free tool by google to know about current trends: Google Trends
• Write On Topic That Help Others:
  
  This is a very important point. It is not always wise/profitable to write hubs rich in keywords. Sometimes answering a question of fellow hubber(in the form of hub) can be profitable too. Remember, at a site like hubpages, the more you share your knowledge the more respect and authority you gain and also hubbers will naturally link to your hub as reference and it will surge your traffic. Also, you never know answering a question might become your next profitable niche. This has happened to me. This series contains some of my best performing hubs and I credit all it's success to her.
• Write In Groups:
  
  This is the most important thing I have learned in my first six months at hubpages and all the credit goes to this ingenious hubber named sunforged and his brainchild project '60 day challenge'. Writing multiple hubs on a specific topic builds your authority and makes you an expert of that particular topic. Also it provides rich user experience to your readers as they can find all the information in one stop and it increases the probability of the user clicking through your affiliate link. • Backlink And Make Effective Use Of Adsense Revenue Sharing Sites:
  
  There is no denying the fact that backlinks are very very important in order to get rank higher in SERPs and establishing your site as an authority in the eyes of search engines(Search engines sees backlinks as votes and the more votes you have, the more you will rise in search results). I got into this backlinking habit very early in my journey at hubpages and I am glad that I did. I have seen rich dividends and I would seriously advise everyone to include backlinking in their daily routine. Also, I would suggest the use of some genuine revenue sharing bookmarking sites. They not only give you a dofollow backlink but you also stand a chance to earn. But avoid backlinking at revenue sharing sites if you are trying to rank for competitive niches as google may pass less value to that link as it will come to know that you are linking to your own content. I personally use Xomba, Shetoldme, Redgage, and Snipsly.
  
  

• Make Use Of The Hubpages Referral System:
  
  Hubpages has one of the best user referral and traffic referral system. When a visitor signs up for hubpages through your tracker you get 10% of the page views for the life of their hubs. Also, make full use of the traffic referral system by referring to hubs by other authors. You get 9% if the author has already signed up through a referral and 12% if the author hasn't signed up through a referral. Also, linking to other quality hubs provides rich user experience. As of now I have 6 signups through my trackers and 17,481 traffic views through my tracker. So refer your friends and family and link to your hubs as well as quality hubs by other authors.
• Don't Overload Yourself With Information And Keep Experimenting:
  
  I have seen many newbie hubbers suffering from information overload. They read too much too soon and end up doing nothing. When writing for money online it is important that you keep experimenting and find a strategy that works best for you and replicate that. Take experimenting as a fun way to learn. Also never quit anything before trying.
• Always Know That You Don't Know Everything:
  
  If you want to be successful online, then this point is of utmost importance. Always remember that there is always a room for improvement so be open to suggestions, ideas and constructive criticism. Don't think that you know everything because the day you start doing that you will terribly fail as internet world is dynamic and evolving and there is no room for saturated minds. Also, remember that everyone is gifted with different talent. SO if you are a good internet marketer help someone who really writes quality hubs and he might help you improve the quality of your hubs. It would be a win-win situation for both.
• Never Give Up:
  
  Never ever give up. If you are thinking of making a decent income online then you have to be patient. Initially it takes time and you should not expect ninety days wonder. And if you are not seeing rewards for your efforts then you should bring a change in what you are doing and keep trying till you get successful. The best thing to do would be to follow other successful hubbers and learn from their experience. Hubpages community is the best community I have ever seen, so feel free to discuss your problems with them and they would come up with wonderful solutions.
